Two local marketing professionals and Bridgewater College art alumni, Elise Trissel ’11 and Brandon Christian ’19, will showcase marketing photography and videography in their joint exhibition, “Marketing in Motion.” The exhibition will be on display in the College’s Beverly Perdue Art Gallery from Monday, Nov. 4, through Friday, Dec. 13.
Trissel and Christian both work for TDC Marketing in Harrisonburg, Va. and will display photos and videos that represent their own work and the work of their colleagues. The pair released the following artists’ statement: “Experience the blend of art and strategy in ‘Marketing in Motion.’ This exhibit highlights the impact of photography and videography in marketing, showing how creativity drives engagement and transforms messages. Explore how strong visuals and compelling storytelling can make a difference for clients.”
Trissel and Christian also say they aim to highlight the artistry in marketing and convey to BC students how a passion for art can pave the way for professional success in this field.
“Our work requires being artful and creative,” Christian explained. “We want to show that, despite the added challenge of working within [a client’s] parameters, there is still plenty of room for creativity.”
Both artists work on TDC Marketing’s content team: Trissel as a content manager, and Christian as a content strategist and specialist. In their roles, the two have created photo and video content for clients in a wide range of industries, including Anicira, a veterinary clinic; Habitat for Humanity, a housing nonprofit; and Shenandoah Bicycle Company, a community-oriented bike shop.
Beyond creating photos and videos, Trissel and Christian said they strive to meet businesses’ goals by helping clients develop a marketing strategy. Executing these strategies, Trissel said, requires pushing creative boundaries and finding new ways to look at everyday things.
“Plenty of things can be ‘cool,’ but it isn’t always obvious,” Trissel said. “Part of the job is finding new and interesting ways of showing why something is ‘cool’ while still meeting your client’s needs.”
The art exhibition will have an opening reception in the gallery from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, with an artist’s talk at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition, opening reception and artist’s talk are free and open to the public. The gallery is open from 7:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday; and noon to midnight on Sunday.
