Incoming first-year and transfer students who have been offered admission into the College and present a strong record of academic achievement will be invited to join the Flory Honors program.
First-year students will need:
- A cumulative high school GPA of 3.8 or higher
- To display a strong academic curriculum
- An SAT score of 1270 or ACT score of 27 or higher
- Applicants can apply test-optional and be considered for the Flory Honors program
Transfer students will need:
- A cumulative post-secondary GPA of 3.8 or higher
- At least 24 post-secondary credits
Current BC students with at least a 3.5 cumulative BC GPA may be nominated by a BC professor for membership.

Flory Fellows are entitled to take a personalized curriculum of special honors courses at Bridgewater. You will start with an honors section of FILA-150 (FILA Seminar), the College’s first-year seminar. To graduate as a Flory Fellow you must finish a minimum of seven honors courses or honors upgrades, including your Honors Project and the Honors Capstone Seminar.
Honors Classes:
Special sections of regular general education courses, honors classes are limited to 15 students, enabling a higher, more engaged level of discussion and discourse.
Honors Upgrades:
Work closely with a professor to determine ways you will delve deeper into the topics and content presented in any class on campus.
Honors Project:
In your junior or senior year, you will work closely with a professor on a three-credit, original honors project. Honors Project Guidelines (pdf)
The Senior Capstone Seminar:
Bring together the knowledge you’ve gained during your college career in a final-semester seminar where you will come together with other honors students to share your experiences and plan for the next stage of life.
Along with the personalized honors curriculum, the Flory Honors Program promotes a lively, engaging and inspiring intellectual community of scholars and friends. As a Flory Fellow you will have unique opportunities at Bridgewater College and be part of an extracurricular life focused on building personal relationships and maintaining and strengthening the honors community.
Unique Scholarship Opportunities:
As a Flory Fellow, you will have access to scholarship opportunities and research fellowships.
Priority Registration:
As a Flory Fellow, you will receive priority registration for classes throughout your time at Bridgewater.
Special Housing:
As a way of extending the Flory Honors community outside of the classroom, first-year Flory Fellows have the opportunity to live on an honors floor in a residence hall. Upperclassmen in the Flory Honors Program are able to live in specific honors houses.
National Fellowship Application Mentoring:
Flory Fellows receive specific, personal encouragement and mentoring from a select group of professors when applying for national fellowships such as the Fulbright, Truman and Rhodes, in addition to support on applications for Bridgewater College opportunities.
Exclusive Honors Retreats, Activities & Events:
As a community of friends as well as scholars, Flory Fellows participate in a wide range of honors activities, ranging from dinners with faculty to a book club with the College President to outings and cultural events.
