Theatre at Bridgewater College will present The Children’s Hour by Lillian Hellman at Bridgewater College Feb. 22 – 25 in Cole Hall.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Feb. 22 – 24 and at 3 p.m. on Feb. 25. Reservations are recommended. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and non-BC students. Call 540-828-5631 for more information and to reserve tickets.
The performance is directed by Scott W. Cole, associate professor of theater at Bridgewater College.
In The Children’s Hour, a malicious youngster starts a rumor about the women who are running their boarding school. The rumor soon turns to scandal. As the young girl comes to understand the power she wields, she sticks by her story, which precipitates tragedy for the women. It is later discovered that the gossip was pure invention, but it is too late. Irreparable damage has been done.

R.J. Southers, a senior majoring in sociology, from Hinton, Va., is serving as assistant director. Tori Callahan, a sophomore double majoring in sociology and communication, technology and culture with a minor in theater, from Bloomsburg, Pa.is stage manager. Mario Lovewell, a first-year student from Ashburn, Va., is assistant stage manager and oversees wardrobe maintenance. Kelley Hilliker, a senior majoring in biology, from Middletown, Va., is serving as dramaturge. Olivia Piper, a sophomore majoring in English, from Waynesboro, Va., is assistant hair and make-up designer. Becky Hamilton, a junior majoring in art, from Sutherland, Va., is serving as light board operator. The set crew includes sophomore biology majors Joshua Sprouse from Charlottesville, Va., and Martha Pease Neugebauer from Annapolis, Md.
Working with the production are Bridgewater College adjuncts in theater Holly Labbe on costume design and David B. Vogel on light design. Also working with the production are members of the local community: Shannon Dove on set design and Ethan Eldred on sound design.
