Bridgewater College’s Symphonic Band will present a concert, “Unfamiliar Faces,” featuring music by brilliant but underrepresented composers on April 7.

Bridgewater College’s Symphonic Band will present a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7, in Cole Hall, as part of ASPIRE (A Celebration of the Arts, Scholarship, Performance, Innovation and Research Excellence). ASPIRE events will be held April 5-23.

The Symphonic Band is under the direction of Dr. Christine Carrillo, associate professor of music and director of instrumental music at Bridgewater College.

The concert, “Unfamiliar Faces,” highlights music by brilliant but underrepresented composers.

A special feature of the concert is the premier performance of a new work, “Blue Dances,” by Giovanni Santos.

Two music majors, Christopher A. DeFreeuw, a senior from Suffolk, Va., and Joshua P. Layton, a senior from Greenwood, Del., will serve as student conductors. DeFreeuw will conduct “Dancing in Air” by Yo Goto and Layton will conduct “Hambone” by Libby Larsen.

The concert is free and open to the public.
