Bridgewater College students Laura A. Michaelis, Jared A. Russell and Sterling M. Senger were recognized for academic excellence at the college awards ceremony.
Bridgewater College students Laura A. Michaelis, Jared A. Russell and Sterling M. Senger were recognized by the department of philosophy and religion for academic excellence at the college awards ceremony.
Michaelis received the Philosophy Award for the most extensive record of excellent academic work in philosophy courses. Michaelis, a senior philosophy and religion major with a minor in psychology, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Michaelis of Oakton, Va.
Michaelis is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater’s scholastic honor society, and Psi Chi, an international psychology honor society. She is a member of BC Allies, the LGBTQ advocacy group on campus.
Senger was selected as the winner of the Religion Award for the most extensive record of excellent academic work in biblical religion and theology courses. Senger, a senior biology major with a minor in philosophy and religion, is the daughter of Tamara Senger of Mount Sidney, Va.
At Bridgewater, Senger has served as an academic coach.
Senger graduated on May 4 and will pursue a master of public health at Virginia Tech.
Russell was presented The Ruth and Steve Watson Philosophy Scholarship Award. The award, presented to a rising junior or senior, rewards past and future contributions to philosophical inquiry. The scholarship is for the 2019-’20 academic year. Russell, a junior philosophy and religion and political science double major, is the son of Courtney Jones and Wayne Russell, both of Hampton, Va.
Russell is a member of the college’s Flory Honors Program. He is also a member of the Bushido Club and serves on the Bridgewater College Interfaith Board.
