Three Bridgewater College psychology majors received the Donald R. Witters Psychology Awards presented during the college awards ceremony.
Three Bridgewater College psychology majors—Emily J. Forbes, Samantha D. Good and Kristen N. Lilly—received the Donald R. Witters Psychology Awards presented during the college awards ceremony.
The psychology awards are named in honor of Dr. Donald R. Witters, who retired at the end of the 2005-2006 academic year as professor of psychology, emeritus. He joined the Bridgewater College faculty in 1968 as a professor of psychology and served as chair of the department from 1990 to 1996.
The Outstanding Academic Award was presented to Forbes for superior performance in the classroom.
Forbes is the daughter of Jesse and Teresa Forbes of Purcellville, Va. Forbes is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater’s scholastic honor society, and serves as treasurer of the campus chapter of Psi Chi, an international psychology honor society. She is a member of the Pre-health Society.
Outstanding Research Awards were presented to Good and Lilly for excellence in demonstrated research and potential to contribute to the discipline.
Good is the daughter of Jennifer Lamb of McGaheysville, Va., and Charles Good of Elkton, Va. Good is a member of Psi Chi. She completed a research project, “Effects of Ortho Tri-Cyclen on Weight and Ethanol CPP in Female Mice.”
Lilly is the daughter of Todd and Marlene Lilly of Elkton, Va. Lilly is a member of Psi Chi. She completed a research project, “Comparison of Anxiety and Depression in Adolescent Mice Exposed to Hormonal Contraceptives.”
All three award winners graduated on May 4. Forbes will be employed at the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents in Staunton, Va. Good will pursue a master’s in applied psychology: developmental psychology at Liberty University while working full-time with Intercept Youth at a group home. Lilly will pursue a master’s in developmental psychology, also at Liberty University.
