Bridgewater College offices will be closed starting at noon on Friday, December 20 through Wednesday, January 1 for the holiday season. Campus offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 2.

For those wishing to make a contribution to the College in this tax year, gifts can be made at bridgewater.edu/give or by mail to Bridgewater College, Box 33, 402 East College Street, Bridgewater VA 22812. Credit card gifts must be completed on or before December 31, 2024, to be counted as a 2024 gift. Checks must be postmarked on or before December 31, 2024. BC’s Jazz Bands to Perform on March 23

Bridgewater College’s Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Associate Professor of Music Dr. Christine Carrillo, will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, in Cole Hall on the College’s campus. The concert is free and open to the public. 

The event will open with a captivating performance by the Jazz Band, treating the audience to rich harmonies, swing rhythms and a fluid, dynamic sound. The setlist includes an eclectic mix of classics and contemporary pieces: “Riders on the Storm” by The Doors and Mark Story; “Back at the Shack” by Tom Molter; “You Don’t Know Me” by Eddy Arnold, Cindy Walker and Allen Gray; “Green Onions” by A. Jackson, L. Steinberg, B.T. Jones and S. Cropper, arranged by Paul Murtha; and “Mumbo Gumbo” by Howard Rowe.

Several Jazz Band songs feature BC student soloists:

  • “Riders on the Storm” with Josh Allen ’27 on vibraphone
  • “Back at the Shack” with Shelby Herrold ’27 on trumpet
  • “You Don’t Know Me” with Miles Rhoden ’27 as a vocalist, Abigail Ferguson ’26 on tenor sax and BJ Kirkpatrick ’28 on tenor sax
  • “Green Onions” with Ferguson on tenor sax, Gauge Russell ’27 on guitar, Amanda White ’26 on alto sax, Estrella Ramos ’27 on trumpet, Jamie Rexrode ’25 on alto sax, Kirkpatrick on tenor sax and Allen on accordion
  • “Mumbo Gumbo” with Rexroad on alto sax and Kirkpatrick on tenor sax

Following the Jazz Band, the Jazz Ensemble will take the stage, delivering an electrifying performance with dynamic rhythms and a repertoire of jazz classics and contemporary favorites. The set list includes: “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin and Gordon Goodwin; “My Favorite Things” by Oscar Hammerstein II, Richard Rodgers and Roger Holmes; “Chili Today, Hot Tamale” by Rick Hirsch; “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by Don Rae, Hughie Prince and Alan Glasscock; “If I Didn’t Have You (from Monsters, Inc.)” by Randy Newman and John Berry; and “Paranoid Android” by Radiohead and Ken Schaphorst. 

Several Jazz Ensemble songs also feature BC student soloists and student directors:

  • “Rhapsody in Blue” with Joseph Sepulveda ’26 on clarinet, Conner Scye ’26 on tenor sax, Ramos on flute, Kirkpatrick on tenor sax, Wenmarie Rivera-Mercado ’28 on bass clarinet and Logan West ’25 on trombone
  • “My Favorite Things” with Elijah Lowe ’28 on trumpet and Scye on tenor sax
  • “Chili Today, Hot Tamale” with Nick Rhodes ’27 on trombone and Scye on tenor sax
  • “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” with Nate McEntyre ’26 as Student Director and Abby Nester ’25, Delaney Richards ’28 and Ferguson as a vocal trio
  • “If I Didn’t Have You” with Martin Stoner ’26 as Student Director, Nicole Sanchez Traverso ’28 on trumpet and Rosie Clark ’26 on alto sax
  • “Paranoid Android” with Anna Williams ’27 on guitar, Andy Wildermuth ’28 on piano and Rhodes on trombone.
