Raymond Alexander and Julianna Brooks receive the Outstanding Student Awards in communication studies and theatre at Bridgewater College during the college awards ceremony.
Raymond F. Alexander was presented the Outstanding Student Award from the department of communication studies and Julianna M. Brooks received the Outstanding Theatre Artist Award at Bridgewater College during the college awards ceremony.
The Outstanding Student Award from the department of communication studies is presented to the outstanding graduating senior in communication, technology and culture and is based on academic performance, leadership, excellence in writing, and internship and work experience.
Alexander, a communication, technology and culture major with a minor in English, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Alexander of Knoxville, Md. Alexander is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater’s scholastic honor society; Lambda Pi Eta, a national communication studies honor society; and Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society.
He serves as president of the BC Film and Television Society, and he is executive director of BC Voice, the student-run media organization on campus.
Alexander served as assistant director for two Bridgewater College productions—Men on Boats by Jaclyn Backhaus and Almost, Maine by John Cariani.
The Outstanding Theatre Artist Award is presented to the student who exhibits exceptional accomplishment in theatrical performance, production and scholarship.
Brooks, a senior English and theatre double major, is the daughter of Joshua and Jennifer Brooks of Aspers, Pa. Brooks is a member of the Philomathes Society; Alpha Chi, a national scholastic honor society; and Alpha Psi Omega, a national theatre fraternity.
She is a member of the Pinion Players, the student-run theatre organization, the Concert Choir and the Chorale. She also performs with the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble and a tuba quartet.
She has performed in numerous productions at Bridgewater College. She has been cast in productions of Skin of Our Teeth by Thornton Wilder, The Green Bird by Carlo Gozzi, The Children’s Hour: Can You Hear Us? by Lillian Hellman, Men on Boats and Almost, Maine.
As part of ASPIRE (A Celebration of the Arts, Scholarship, Performance, Innovation and Research Excellence), Brooks directed two performances of A Document in Madness: Monologues and Scenes by William Shakespeare.
