Ripples Society By-Laws
ARTICLE I - NAME
The name of the organization shall be The Bridgewater College Ripples Society, a unit of the Bridgewater College Alumni Association.
ARTICLE II - OBJECT
The aims of the organization shall be to promote friendship among former students, faculty, and staff of Bridgewater College, Blue Ridge College, Daleville, and Hebron Seminary of 50 or more years ago; to strive for a better acquaintance with Bridgewater's history and with Bridgewater as it is today, and to support the program and best interests of the College.
ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. Membership in the organization is open to all alumni of Bridgewater College, Blue Ridge College, Daleville, and Hebron Seminary of 50 or more years ago. Membership in the Ripples Society shall include all honorary members of the Alumni Association who have attained the age of 70.
ARTICLE IV - OFFICERS
Section 1. The officers shall consist of a president, a president-elect, a secretary, immediate past president, and the executive director of the Bridgewater College Alumni Association. These officers shall constitute the Executive Committee, along with the archivist, who is appointed by the president.
Section 2. The officers shall be nominated by the Executive Committee and voted on at the annual meeting held at the Ripples Society Banquet. All officers will serve a two year term, being elected every other year. They shall assume the duties of their respective offices on January 1 following their election year.
Section 3. Vacancies in office shall be filled by the Executive Committee to serve until the next regular election.
ARTICLE V - DUTIES OF OFFICERS
Section 1. The president shall preside at all meetings, appoint committees with the approval of the Executive Committee, and perform such other duties as the office requires.
Section 2. The president-elect shall act in the absence of the president and shall be chairman of the program committee for the annual meeting.
Section 3. The secretary shall have the usual duties of a secretary, record the minutes of the meetings, read the correspondence and minutes of the previous meeting.
Section 4. The immediate past-president shall serve as advisor to the president. He or she shall serve as a member of the executive committee. In the event the president and president-elect are unable to serve, the immediate past president shall complete the term of office for the president.
Section 5. The president shall appoint an archivist who will assist the alumni office in gathering and preserving news of the membership. The Archivist shall also be a member of the Executive Committee.
ARTICLE VI - MEETINGS
In addition to the annual Ripples Society Banquet, the president may call additional meetings, if necessary.
ARTICLE VII - QUORUM
A quorum at any business meeting shall consist of not fewer than 10 members.
ARTICLE VIII - AMENDMENTS
These By-Laws may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-thirds vote of members present. Proposed amendments should be submitted to the Ripples Society Executive Committee in a timely manner for consideration by the BC Alumni Association at their earliest subsequent meeting.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION AWARDS
SECTION VI. Ripples Society Medal
At the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association on September 28, 1990, approval was given to the report of the Executive Committee of the Ripples Society as to the principles and procedures to be used in selecting a recipient of a Ripples Society Medal.
A. The principles guiding the selection process are
- loyal devotion to Bridgewater College
- vocational and/or professional achievement
- humanitarian activities
It is intended that this award be presented to persons who have not received the Distinguished Alumni Award.
B. One or more alumni of Bridgewater College, Blue Ridge College, Daleville College and Hebron Seminary of 50 or more years ago may be awarded the Ripples Society Medal each year.
Nominations shall be submitted to the Office of Alumni Relations. The Ripples Society Executive Committee will select the person(s) for recommendation to the President of the College. After approval by the President of the College the Alumni Association Board of Directors will confirm the acceptance of the person(s) to receive the Ripples Society Medal. All awards will be made at the Ripples Society spring banquet.
C. The presentation of the award should be made with a short statement of the honoree's devotion to Bridgewater College, vocational and/or professional achievements and current humanitarian activity. An appropriate medal will be designed for the presentation.
